This advanced course expands upon the foundational principles introduced in our 1-hour introduction course.  By offering an in-depth exploration of the clinical, cultural, and ethical complexities of working with clients at the intersections of trauma, religion, and sexuality.

Designed for mental health professionals with some prior experience with psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy concepts, this training provides a deeper dive into neurobiology, therapeutic interventions, and integration practices tailored for clients recovering from high-demand religious environments and sexual shame frameworks.

Through a combination of didactic teaching, case analysis, and applied clinical strategies, participants will strengthen their ability to support clients navigating profound identity, relational, and spiritual challenges within psychedelic contexts.

  • Describe the neurobiological and psychological mechanisms by which psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy enhances neural plasticity, supports trauma processing, and facilitates integration for clients with religious and sexual trauma.
  • Analyze ethical, cultural, and clinical considerations specific to working with clients from high-demand religious backgrounds when exploring or integrating psychedelic modalities.
  • Apply trauma-informed strategies to support clients navigating sexual shame and purity culture within the context of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy.
  • Apply trauma-informed strategies to support clients navigating religious trauma (e.g., scrupulosity, spiritual abuse, loss of community) within the context of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy.

Natasha Helfer

Natasha Helfer LMFT, CST-S, received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Brigham Young University and her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Friends University.

 She also received her certifications as a sex therapist and sex therapist supervisor from the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT).
Helfer is a speaker, writer, and podcaster with 23 years of clinical experience primarily working with a Mormon clientele around issues of relational health, faith transitions and journeys, and sexuality. 

Helfer has presented all over the country both in professional and public settings, has been invited as a guest speaker at several national and international events as well as been interviewed on a variety of podcasts, TV news programs and newspapers.

Helfer was excommunicated from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (aka Mormon church) for issues surrounding her advocacy for sexual health.


Aimee Heffernan

Aimee Heffernan is a seasoned relationship, family systems, and sex therapist with over 15 years supporting clients navigate the art (not science) of being human. 
A Master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy from Seattle Pacific University laid the foundation for her holistic and playful approach. She served on the boards of the Mormon Mental Health Association and the Northwest Institute on Intimacy, and taught university courses at Antioch University on sex therapy and sexuality within faith systems. Her public contributions reflect her fun and passionate dedication to relational belonging and sexual health. 
Aimee completed psychedelic facilitation and minister training to blend her clinical background with exploring the mysteries of transformation. She is co-founder of Psychedelic Midwives

Amy Rossi

Amy Rossi, M.A. is a trauma-informed psychedelic facilitator, plant medicine integration practitioner, and minister in a psychedelic church in the state of Utah. She has a B.A. in Human Development and an M.A. in Depth Psychology.
She is currently in the process of obtaining a Ph.D. in Jungian and Archetypal Psychology, where her dissertation will be studying psychedelic plant medicines from a depth-oriented lens. 
Amy is the founder and creator of the Give, Gather, Grow Collective, an educational and apprenticeship training program designed for individuals who are seeking to learn the sacred art of psychedelic facilitation. Amy’s passion lies in the space where safety, education, ethics, and efficacy intersect with the world of psychedelics and depth psychology.
